KneezUp helps a group of friends plan a trip together. It's run by SMG Digital Limited, a company in England and Wales. This page says what we keep, why, and who else sees it. We don't show ads, we don't sell data, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

What we keep

• Your mobile number, to sign you in with a text code and so friends can add you to a trip.
• Your name and profile photo, if you add them, so your group knows who's who.
• What your group adds to a trip: dates and destination, plans and ideas, travel details, rooms, expenses and who owes what, to-dos and POAs. Everyone on that trip can see it.
• People added without the app: the name someone types in, and a phone number if they add one for an invite.
• A notification token for your phone, if you allow notifications, so POAs reach you.
• Where you are, if you allow location, and only while you're using the app: when you're on a trip, a place search looks around you. It goes with that search and nowhere else. It's never saved to your account or shown to your group.
• Your internet address, briefly and in memory only, to stop people flooding the sign-in with requests.

Who else handles it

• DigitalOcean hosts our server and database in London.
• Twilio sends the sign-in texts, so it receives your number and the code.
• Apple delivers notifications to iPhones.
• OpenStreetMap services (Photon, run by Komoot, and Nominatim) receive what you type when you search for a place or hotel, and the trip's rough location (or yours, if you've allowed location and you're on the trip). They don't receive your name or number.
• Google Maps Platform receives the trip's rough location when we suggest places to eat, drink, stay or go, and shows their ratings, photos and reviews. It doesn't receive your name or number.
• Wikimedia receives the trip's town when you pick a photo of it for the trip's cover.

We only share your information with these services to run KneezUp, and never for their own marketing.

How we use it

To run KneezUp for you and your group, and to see how the app is doing overall: how many people use it, how many trips get planned, which towns people go to, and which parts of the app get used. That's counts and totals. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and trips while you use KneezUp. You can delete your account yourself in the app (your profile, then Delete my account), and it happens straight away. Or contact [email protected] and we'll do it within 30 days. Expenses you were part of stay on the trip's tab under a removed name, so the rest of the group's sums still add up.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your information, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Contact [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

KneezUp is for adults planning trips. It isn't meant for anyone under 16.
